How Do I Join Toastmasters?

Joining a Toastmasters club is easy.

Visit a Club

Visitors are most welcome at any Toastmasters meeting, and are always assured of a comfortable and warm visit. Toastmasters recognize that public speaking is a frightening thought for many people, and summoning up the courage to get to the first meeting is always the most difficult step - every Toastmaster had to walk through that door once.

Visitors are encouraged to attend meetings at several clubs, to see the Toastmasters program in action, without any obligation. Clubs differ in size, culture, types of venues, meeting times and lengths and meal arrangements, so shopping around is always a good idea to ensure you find a club which suits you and your lifestyle.

The Spoke Masters Club is a warm family of friends who share and care about each other!  We encourage our members to grow within our club and enable each member to grow at the their jobs and within their community by enriching their ability to communicate.

Do the Paperwork

Once you have visited a few times and feel that our club is right for you, it is time to join.  You will fill out a brief application and submit it, along with the club dues, to the Treasurer.

Pay the Membership Fee

Toastmasters, in comparison with various public speaking courses, seminars, programs, cassette and video kits, is the least expensive and the most effective way to learn public speaking and to develop confidence and self-esteem in the public arena.

All new members must pay a one-time $20 new member fee which goes to Toastmasters International. This fee pays for your new member kit, which includes your basic communication and leadership manual. This manual contains the first 10 speech projects you will present.

In addition to the new member fee, you will pay the normal club dues, which are $27 every 6 months. (dues will be pro-rated depending on what month you join) and $8 local dues to cover local expense.  Once you join, the $27 club dues are payable April 1 and October 1 of each year.

What is Included in the Membership Fee?

You will receive as part of your membership:

  • Communications & Leadership Workbook -This contains guidelines and advice for the first ten speeches you will make at Toastmasters. Upon completion, you will receive a CTM (Competent Toastmaster Award and a letter (optional) will be sent to your employer, telling them of your achievement.

  • Variety of Public Speaking Manuals - Manual topics include tips for adding strength and authority to your voice, how to become skilled in non-verbal communication and tips and techniques for giving helpful evaluations.

  • "The Toastmaster" Magazine - An award-winning monthly publication that offers the latest insights on speaking and leadership techniques.
